Firefly's tenth feature film is a drama that will go straight to your heart. It is a story that spans time and shows the importance of friendship. The film, written and directed by Joe Rusin, begins with an aging man named Eugene Buterbaugh. Gene, tells the incredible story of what happened to him and his two best friends Will and Andy Robinson. After the Robinson parents were killed in a fatal car accident, Will is forced to work for a bully named Michael Heartbrook. However, something goes wrong and Will, Gene, and Andy become the prime suspects in his mysterious murder. You will laugh, cry, and look back at your own friends of the past as you enjoy Colongimira.
Shooting for Colongimira took well over six months. The director and the actors schedules were largely incompatible and it became a constant struggle to schedule shooting. Plus, certain scenes had to be reshot. Alas, it shooting was finally completed.
Colongimira features some complex scenes, including the death of a young man who is hit by a car. This was accomplished by doing quick edits of many different shots with the final product looking as real as life.
Colongimira marks the Firefly screen return of Brad Schake. His last Firefly movie was Ambersaw from 1996. Making his Firefly debut is Jason Burket as make-up supervisor. His last on screen role was in Macbeth from 1996. Jason's makeup on actor Joe Stapleton is comprised of an interesting substance -- mashed potatoes in powder form. This gave Joe the look of a senior citizen.
The main characters were required to be different ages. At one point they are teenagers in high school, then young adults in college, and finally a senior citizen.
