The Play Buffet was established as a fund raising project for a local high school drama department.  The original Play Buffet (1995) and the Play Buffet II (1996) consisted of scenes from various original and stage scripts that were organized to give the audience a wide variety of experiences.

Some plays were written by Firefly members, while others were taken from movies, musicals, novels, and plays from the past.  

Some of the scenes performed were from: Angels in America, Miles Gondish Goes to Hollywood, Barnum, the Hoagie, Pulp Fiction, and others.

A note for trivia buffs:  this was the first performance of a scene from Miles Gondish Goes to Hollywood, which would later be performed in its entirety in December 1997 and released on video in 1999.
